1. Irish people speak English, but in schools they also learn traditional Gaelic (Old Irish) language

2. St Patricks Day, national holiday in Ireland, is consider as a patron saint of Ireland and it is celebrated grandly

4. There is no snakes in whole Ireland. According to legend, the patron saint of Ireland chased the slithering reptiles into the sea after they began attacking him during a 40-day fast he undertook on top of a hill.

5. Halloween traces back its origins to the Gaelic festival of Samhain, a harvest festival held on 31 October to mark the end of summer. Samhain became associated with All Saints (1 November) from the early Middle Ages and the two progressively merged over the centuries, creating Halloween.

8. Ireland is home to what could possibly be the oldest pub in the world. It was opened in 900AD

9.The most famous ship, Titanic, was built in Belfast in Ireland. There is also a visitor attraction, Titanic Belfast, opened in 2012, a monument to Belfasts maritime heritage on the site of the former Harland Wolff shipyard in the citys Titanic Quarter where the RMS Titanic was built.

Great article One small correction...all Irish children are required to learn Gaelic..all schools must teach it. Some schools however teach all subjects including English thu Gaelic, these are know as Gael Scoil Voted
