بعدازاین ماجرا روزی ابلیس خود را به شکل جوانی درآورد و نزد ضحاک رفت و خود را آشپز ماهری معرفی کرد. در آن زمان کمتر از حیوانات برای پخت‌وپز استفاده می‌شد و بیشتر غذایشان از رستنی‌ها بود ولی اهریمن از هرگونه مرغ و چارپایی خورش‌های رنگارنگی درست کرد . ضحاک که خیلی از دست‌پخت او خوشش آمده بود گفت : هر چه از من بخواهی به تو خواهم داد. ابلیس گفت : تنها حاجتم این است که اجازه فرمایی کتف تو را ببوسم .ضحاک پذیرفت. ابلیس پس از بوسیدن کتف شاه ناپدید شد و بر جای بوسه او دو مار سیاه رویید.

ضحاک ابتدا ترسید و هر دو را از ته برید اما دوباره به‌جای آن دو مار سیاه دیگر رویید .همه پزشکان احضار شدند ولی کاری از دستشان ساخته نبود. دوباره ابلیس خود را به شکل پزشکی درآورد و نزد ضحاک رفت و گفت : تنها علاج این مسئله سازش با مارها است و باید آن‌ها را سیر نگهداری و غذایشان هم مغز سر مردم است.

در این زمان مصادف بود با شورش مردم بر ضد جمشید شاه ایران. مردم سپاهی درست کرده و به سمت تازیان رفتند و ضحاک را شاه ایران نامیدند. ضحاک به تخت جمشید آمد و در آنجا تاج‌گذاری کرد. جمشید نیز فرار کرد و تا صدسال کسی او را ندید و در سال صدم روزی در دریای چین پدیدار شد و ضحاک هم او را دستگیر کرد و با اره او را به دونیم نمود.

چنین است کیهان ناپایدار

تو در وی به‌جز تخم نیکی مکار

دلم سیر شد زین سرای سپنج

خدایا مرا زود برهان ز رنج
